Introduction
With glorious sea views, and sandy white beaches, Finale Ligure, makes a fabulous holiday destination. Situated beside the Rock of Caprazoppa, the town is rich in culture, and history. A bustling commercial area, palm-lined boardwalk, and myriad open-air restaurants add a touch of excitement to this beautiful town on the Italian Riviera.

Finale Ligure is actually comprised of three districts. Finale Ligure Marina, and Finale Pia are both on the sea. Finale Pia houses a Benedictine abbey. An old medieval town, surrounded by a wall can be found at Finalborgo. It was built during the time when the Ligurian coast was prone to pirate raids.

Arrival
Plane
International visitors have two options for arrival, Genoa's (GOA) “Aeroporto Di Genova” and Nice's (NCE) “Nice Cote D'Azur” are both close by. Both airports accommodate flights from around Italy, as well as many cities throughout Europe. Ryanair runs direct flights from London Stanstead to Genoa, and Easyjet flies direct to Nice from several British cities.

Train
High speed trains will get you from Genoa to Finale Ligure in 45 minutes. Regional trains take from one to two hours. From Nice (Nice Ville), the train journey is two and a half to three hours.

Car
From Genoa, 74 km east, follow the A10 Motorway to the Finale Ligure exit. It's about 130 km from Nice. Take the A10/E80 Motorway toward Ventimiglia, to the Finale Ligure exit.

History and Culture
Evidence of human existence from the Neolithic period have been found in caves near Finale Ligure. Historically, the town separated two Ligurian tribes, the Sabatii who resided in the eastern regions, and the Internelii who lived in the western sections. During Roman Times there was a post station near the town, on the Via Julia Augusta, the old Roman road that ran along the Ligurian coast.

A document dating from 967 acknowledges the inclusion of the town in Emperor Otto I's Marca Aleramica. Del Carretto later inherited the region and made it very powerful. In 1447 the town went to war with Genoa because they did not want to fall under Genoese rule. But the town residents lost to the Genoese in 1448.

In 1571 the governor of Milan, who was Spanish, occupied the town, and in 1602 it was ruled by Spain. In 1815 Finale became part of the Kingdom of Sardinia, and finally, the Kingdom of Italy, in 1861.
