Route E45 Rome / Sorrento
If you lend to Fiumicino and decide to hire a car, then I want to recommend you a splendid itinerary along 350 kilometres. My first recommendation is renting the car once you leave Rome, because getting to your accommodation from the airport Leonardo Da Vinci to the selected hotel or B&B will be most hard things you never experienced.

ROME,
Start from Trastevere, there is lovely bookstore has a huge selection of books but not only! It is also a cultural centre a Web cafè and a restaurant. Enjoy quick lunch or Sunday brunch while listening to poetry or music either inside or outside, on the terrace. The colosseum is a must-see among Rome ruins. The huge antic amphitheatre where Romans used to do their famous games is amazingly preserved. Whether or not you take a guided tour, you will be impressed. Take an after-lunch stroll through Via Condotti, synonymous of Armani, Gucci, Dolce e Gabbana.
No need to say St Peter, the Vatican Museum and the Sistine Chapel can't be missed when visiting Rome. The Sistine Chapel with its incredible ceiling featuring “The Last Judgment”, by Michelangelo is certainly a must-see. It is quite small, compared to the huge St Peter's basilica, but its impressive artworks makes it truly overwhelming.

Exit Montecassino,
The Abbey of Montecassino (l'Abbazia di Montecassino) was rebuilt with the original stones of the abbey destroyed in World War II. This abbey has been destroyed 4 times in history, and dates back to the 300s AD. It is a testament to survival, belief, history, and art. They have done an incredible restoring this abbey. Definitely check out the museum, and the “erbosteria”.

Exit Capua,
keep straight to Gaeta, Sperlonga and Formia. If you desire to experience sandy beaches and blue sea. Gaeta has a beautiful and romantic harbour where walking at night time is great pleasure especially if you wish to try some genuine and freash sea food.

Do not get to Naples if you don't stop first to Caserta, to see where the king use to leave. The monumental complex at Caserta, created by the Bourbon king Charles III in the mid-18th century to rival Versailles and the Royal Palace in Madrid, is exceptional for the way in which it brings together a magnificent palace with its park and gardens. If you have enough time go and spent your lunch in Caserta Vecchia, you will feel like in a medieval borgo where you can imagine to leave into another era.

Naples,
The largest city in southern Italy, Naples is a city rich with art, history and culture. Moreover, Naples is a culinary paradise, famous for such world-renowned delights as wood-fired pizza, fresh pastas and eggplant parmigiana. Naples is home to such attractions as Museo Archeologico Nazionale Napoli, Museo Nazionale di Capodimonte and Teatro di San Carlo, and also serves as an excellent starting point for exploring surrounding historical areas such as Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius.

Ischia
From Naples board the ferry to the island of Ischia. Called the Emerald Island, Ischia is studded with pine groves and surrounded by sparkling waters that wash up on many sandy beaches. In Greek mythology, it was the home of Typhoeus (Typhon). The island covers just over 47 sq. km (18 sq. miles), and its prominent feature is Monte Epomeo, near the center, a volcano that was a powerful force and source of worry for the Greek colonists who settled here in the 8th century B.C.

Capri,
The unparalleled beauty of Capri will dazzle and overwhelm you. Enjoy the panoramic promenade on the Belvedere of Tragara or sail in a rented gozzi boat on the crystalline waters. The dramatic scenery, soft colors, ancient architecture and fresh island air fills you with a sense of romance and serenity.

Mount Vesuvius
Famous for its 79 AD eruption that buried Pompeii, this massive volcano is the only active volcano on the European mainland. You can hike the mountain to its peak to peer in at the wisps of smoke curling out from the crater and take in the astounding views of the surrounding countryside. Vesuvius makes for an excellent early morning hike, particularly because this is when the site is least busy.

Ancient Pompeii
Frozen in time by the catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in the first century, this ancient town has become an important archaeological site where the almost perfectly preserved remains of homes and buildings buried in the disaster now provide a glimpse into what a 2000-year-old Roman community looked like.

Sorrento
Roaming the winding alleys to the Piazza Tasso or sipping Limoncello in one of the many cafés along Via San Cesareo, you will be overwhelmed by the unforgettable charm and beauty of this small town. There is plenty of great shopping as well, with a weekly street market and a multitude of craft sellers offering inlaid wood boxes and cameo jewelry.

Mami Camilla Cooking School,
This cooking school and bed and breakfast offers a unique way to discover the wonder of Southern Italy: through its food. Here you can take daily or weekly courses in Neapolitan cuisine, using homemade pasta and fresh vegetables from the garden outside. Not only will you experience Sorrento in a most delicious way, but you will also learn something here that you can carry home with you to enjoy the magic of Italy all over again.
